COVID-19 = Cleaner Air = More Solar Power
Dan Diehl
A recent study in India has determined that shutdowns because of the COVID-19 virus has resulted in an 8% increase in solar power production because of a decrease in air pollution. Finally a bio feedback loop that works in our favor!
The study was conducted in Delhi after the pandemic halted factories around the city and cleared the air enough to allow more sunlight to reach the solar panels in the area. The increase in output is expected to be similar around the globe as the air has less particulates in it that deflect and absorb photons before they reach solar panels used in solar systems for homes and businesses. More solar production means less burning of coal necessary; a welcome development for the Durango area so near the four corners coal burning power plants.
